Shahrisabz

Shahrisabz – translated from Persian as “green city”. The oldest city of Uzbekistan. The age of this city is 2700 years.

Known fact that earlier, approximately in the 3rd century BC. e., on the site of the city were located agricultural settlements. Further information suggests that in the 2nd century BC. e., there already existed the city of Sousse. His ruler became a “pioneer” in the field of establishing trade relations with China. Then he erected a new “Keshe” on the site of the old city. Under the Achaemenids, the city was renamed Kesh and it served as the center of Sogd.

The city was subjected to frequent transfers and restructuring, and it is not surprising that today’s city of Shahrisabz and the ancient city of Keshe are as much as 20 km apart.

The city of Shakhrisabz suffered a lot of conquests – from the capture of the Achaemenids and Alexander the Great to the Arabs. Despite this, the city has always been considered the center of the intersection of caravan roads lying on the Silk Road.

The city is also famous for the fact that the great Amir Timur was born here. He never forgot his Homeland, and in fact, after the creation of the powerful state of Maverannahr, the city had the same meaning as the capital. The ruler made this city his residence, having built the famous Ak-Saray here. Thanks to the skill of architects and craftsmen who came here on the orders of the overlord, besides the residence, real architectural masterpieces were built in the city.

Today, Shahrisabz is a small town that, like many centuries ago, “bathes” in greenery. There are many buildings and historical landmarks in it, which can be seen in the photo of Shahrisabz. But it would be better to look at them with my own eyes.

The first place to go is the residence of the Emperor Ak-Saray. The palace is simply amazing the beauty of the architectural craftsmanship of the time. You should definitely go and look at the Kok – Gumbaz mosque, the family tomb Dorus – Saodat, Dorus – Tilliwat, the mausoleum of Shamsiddin Kulol.

These architectural monuments are considered UNESCO World Heritage Sites and are carefully protected.

Be sure to visit Shakhrisabz, because only then you can be convinced of the majesty of its historical buildings and walk on the ancient land, breathing in the unique aroma of oriental spices.
