Kokand is an ancient city located in the eastern part of Uzbekistan. According to the information that has reached us, it is known for the first time that Kokand is mentioned in the records of a diplomat from China named Zhang Jiang. In his notes, he spoke about the state of Davan, which was located in the territory of the present Fergana Valley.
Another interesting fact in the history of Kokand. Around the 10th century there was a settlement called Kawakend. About him it is known that the Great Silk Road passed through it. Kavakend at that time was considered a major trading center. However, it did not last very long. The Mongols completely destroyed the city in the 13th century.
The city received its “second breath” in the 18th century, when the Kokand Khanate was formed. Kokand was built in 1732 as a fortress. Having become the capital of the Kokand Khanate, it became the main religious center in which more than 300 mosques were located. Now this beautiful city consists of two parts: the old and the new city. Architectural monuments of the old part of the city, such as the Nurbutabi Madrasa, the Mosque and the Zami minaret, the tomb of Dakhma-i-Shahon, the Kamol Qazi Madrasa, the tomb of the women of Modari Khan, the Khudoyarkhan Palace, date back to the 18th and 19th centuries. These unique creations of ancient architecture fascinate with their beauty and originality. You can look at these and other monuments and sights in the photo of Kokand. But it is better to visit this ancient city and personally evaluate its oriental beauty.
